Pinnacle Ridge on the Isle of Skye

This is a rather distant view of Pinnacle Ridge but I hope it will be clearly recognisable to anyone who knows the area. This is the view from the path that leads from Kilmarie to Camasunary, just before it plunges down the mountainside and bears left towards the "white beach".

This design is approximately 110x150 stitches, approx 17cm x 23.5cm (7 x 9.5 inches) when worked on blockweave 16 blocks per 2.5cm (1"). I have created distance in the picture by sometimes using one strand of thread and sometimes two. Also I've used blended threads to produce the more subtle shading of the sky and the distant slopes of Sgurr nan Gillean and Pinnacle Ridge itself. Fractional stitches and back stitch form the outlines of the mountains and slopes. Then the texture of the foreground has been emphasised using French knots, though you could leave them out if you like. 31 shades of Anchor stranded cotton are used, and no speciality threads are required.
